Projects Updates "MyTerrain" and "Barge Town"

You can say that I have a few pokers in the fire, okay a lot of pokers in the fire, building a gaming table, remodeling my gaming room and working on all the smaller gaming projects as well. Then there's all the day to day life stuff too.

So I have manage to find some time to work on a couple of my smaller projects, one being my drop in place cardboard terrain, I added the last few layers for the cave terrain to finish and covered it in RED tissue paper my working with other papers did not work so well I had to carefully peel them off and start over with the red tissue paper it sort of looks like so wild layer cake with frosting.

Welcome to the angry Red Cake?!

Okay so in some time I will be able to add the sand to it and paint it, I hope that is soon.

So here are some more pictures of it in addition picture for my "Barge Town" project as well

So I guess that is enough of the frosted cake so here are some pictures of my "Barge Town" so I am currently working on a "Fishing Boat" it is not much at the moment but it will shape up here soon.

Just the rough stuff here getting the general shape of things

Now here you can see the general size and shape of the fishing boat, you can see the lower cabin were the wife's hair ties are holding things together and the upper cabin or the pilot house it's still wide open at the moment and hope to work more on it later.

Well so far they are both a start, Thanks for stopping by and looking I hope to advance more on both very soon and start a new terrain piece, I'm really looking forward to a new cardboard terrain one that I have in mind and no  I am not giving any clues as to what it is.

Barge Town Update #2

Well it's been a slow week or better on getting around to my "Barge Town" project but some progress is being made.

Earlier I post some about the Flat Bottom River Boat. more has been done on it and the other that are to come, basically I started out with foam core board and cereal box card board.

I slowly added strips if plastic to add more detail and looks to it, on the bow some paper staples as brush guards.

I hit it with a base coat of primer and the look came out great!

This is going to work out great for the Barge Town project, and it will work out for other games as well Pulp games traveling up or down a river, Jurassic World type games pretty much any other games that will be around water!

Just for a teaser here's a few pictures of "Jo Jo's Crab Shack", Jo Jo's Crab Shack was already on a barge moored on the Mississippi before the rise in water levels and was a main place for the locals to go for good eats, Jo Jo's also serves up some mean ribs too! You can see in the first picture I have been working on some smaller building and shacks as well

More is yet to come plan on having a small refinery barge for refueling and a salvaging barge as well!

I hope this inspire those you are on a budget that you too can make great  moleds with very little spending you just need to take a little more time.

Will be posting on how I built such building so keep watching!

Shipping Container (Update)

Okay posted sometime ago about Shipping containers made from a 36 inch 1x1 inch square wood dowels.

First I'll clean them up filing and sanding the edges removing any of the loose wood fibers.

Laying out at 1/8th inch  line pattern.

Then score the lines with a hobby knife, this cuts the wood fibers for the next step.

I then score the cut lines with a pointed object to press the wood inwards to create a panel effect into the wood.

Now I add strips of plastic stock for the frame work. The strips are 1/8th of an inch wide.

Now I layout little squares that will be the pick up points to the containers, and with a fairly small hole punch, punch holes in the center of the squares the cut the squares out and glue in place.

Next I added the doors.

A good coat of diluted wood glue again to insure nothing falls off!

Once they are all done, I will give them a good base of primer paint and then paint the containers to the colors that I want, then weathering effects will follow.

I know that they are not super detailed but, you get the idea that they are shipping containers.

This is a very cheap way to make such shipping containers and a lot of them, the only draw back is it take time to make them, If they get lost or just plain leave the table you haven't lost a lot. just make more.

Barge Town Update #1

Haven't had much time due to work but plugging away at it with what time I do have.

I did manage to make a couple of gangways and a floating docks

Here's a few pictures of the gangways that would be used to move from barge to barge

This one is just made of square wood stick and coffee stir sticks

This one is made from square wood sticks a section of window screen and cereal box card board, the screen is sandwiched between the wood and the card board, I first made the wood frame then traced the outline of it to the cardboard then cut that out, then just sandwiched it all together.

Wood round dowel used as floats and coffee stir sticks as planking make for the floating dock in the middle ground between the boat and the barge

That's the small stuff for now but have been working on a flat bottom river boat!

The main body is foam core board the basically skinned with card board from a cereal box. As you can guess from the picture I plan to make a couple more river boats.

Here's a shot of the wheel house.

The river boat will work out great not just for this project but for other games as well.

Okay that's all I have for now but still plugging away.

Welcome to Barge Town

Okay, I have had this project sitting there in the back of my mind driving me crazy! I have had this idea for a long time inspired from those at The Miniatures Page http://theminiaturespage.com/ and that is to build a town built on barges, for "End of World" type games.

The concept is to make the barges out of 1" x 4" cut to 12" lengths, these would be the base of the town, I will then skin them with cereal box card board and paint. The rest of the town itself will be mostly shanties built on the deck of the barges.

Made these from a 1" x 4" board cut 12" long at a 45 degree angel with my circular saw

Here are photos with a 15mm figure to give one an idea of there size.

One nice thing I can to find out is that I can move them around and make different layout so there could be more then just one Barge Town.

Pardon the photos didn't turn out so well but gives you the idea of different layouts

I plan to use these in a Global Warming game were the water levels raised some couple hundred feet, Barge Town is one such place were people came to for survival.

Plan to make a couple more from 1" x 6" as well, cut to 12" as well.

Water gaming table, Islands and Boats will be coming soon as well!

I hope this helps to inspire your gaming!
