My Mean Streets

As posted earlier about a modular terrain board, I finally got around to making my first set of street tiles, so right now they only cover a 2x2 foot area but later on I will be adding to them to cover a 4x8 foot area as time goes on. the next set will have a couple of 4-way intersection and a couple of straight sections.

In the mean time I really like the idea that I can currently make up a few different layouts.

To help add more buildings to my terrain, I have decided to use Paper Mache boxes for this project and you can see here, I'm off to a nice start, later on I will be adding MDF buildings from a list of different suppliers.

This going to be a slow growing project, now that fall is over I am hoping to spend more time on this.

Modular City Boards and More!

I have been surfing the web and lots of google searches, when I found a great looking city or town board using 12 inch by 12 inch sections that most people refer to as tiles. I found tinysolitarysoldiers.blogspot.com/  where he used corkboard tiles and some thinner cork for other detail work for sidewalks and pavers.

Then I saw the very similar layout on leadadventureforum.com/ posted by Ockman and using the same technique as posted crediting by "Spacejacker" at Tiny Solitary Soldiers Blog and crediting him as to the layout.

I was very impress with this look and how it can be placed together making different city or town block layouts. Now for most part they made theirs for a 2 foot by 2 foot board using for most part four tiles a couple of 90 degree turns and a couple of three way intersection, I'm looking at doing a couple of each myself but I want to add a few straight sections and a couple of four way intersections.

I will start with the cork tile, later I will mount them on some 2 inch thick pink foam board to which will be mounted to hardboard or MDF board so it all will be elevated so I can do river sections for adding a bridge or two. I will want to add a port as well, so my survivors can escape by road or by boat.

So mulling over different designs ideas in my head, I went and cut out a lot of 4x4 inch thin cardboard squares, measuring  1/4 the scale of the actual tile, easier to waste a few pieces of cardboard then to ruin a bunch of cork.

Here is the basic set up for a 2 foot by 2 foot game as pictured above.

Now a 3 foot by 3 foot game.

A 4 foot by 4 foot game.

Using this same concept for river tiles plus a bridge

Using the river tiles to divide a city or town, where your characters need to get across the bridge for safety, or getting to a small boat that's waiting on the river. I can set up on one side of the river a ruined side all bombed out and burned, and the other side as just abandoned waiting to be searched to goods and supplies.

So with a multiple copies of 8 basic tile I can set you a endless ever changing terrain table.

I will be numbering them 1 thru 8 for the tiles and N, E, S and W to stage the direction the tile and for using with graph paper, so I can reset the table for places I want my characters to revisit.

I want to use this concept for Fantasy and Pirate games as well doing cobble stone streets!

3D Printing at Shapeways

I have been surfing the pages of Shapeways.com and came across Modern U.S. ZOMBIE Soldiers! at the "Panzer vs Tanks" Store link right here https://www.shapeways.com/shops/panzervstanks , 15 figures for $$21.00, He had them in 1/87 scale which according to his site would make them about 20mm tall, he posted that if you wished he could resize them in different scales.

I contacted him and asked if he would do a set in 1/100 or 1/96 Scale to which he promptly did both scales in less the 24 hours.

He posted that the 1/100 scale will be 18mm tall! which fits nicely for 15mm

The 1/96 scale would be about 19mm tall!

You can get either set of 15 for less the $20.00!!

Now he has set in other ranges as well so, for 28mm he has 1/64 scale that would be 28mm tall for a set of 15 for $40.00, that's like 2.67 a figure.

Again he has them in other scale larger and smaller depending on your flavor.

I can't wait to get a couple sets of them and get them on the table, they will be great for doing Military Bases, Overran Check Points, Quarantine Road Blocks maybe even shambling around a destroyed Military Convoy, FEMA Camps or a CDC Labs!

This shop also has other sets of different figures. You will jut have to give it a cruse.

Modern Aircraft for 15mm

Having a need for some Aircraft in my games, I did some research and found a few aircraft that I have been looking for in the 1:100 scale! and I have compiled a small list of ones that I think will be useful.

I have plans to purchase three of each of the models, two will be used for in flight and on the ground actions and the third will be used as a  crash site.

I will also get just one small airliner that is 1:100 scale for a crash site as well from Tamiya and a 1:96 scale Airliner from Lindberg. Which you can get them both from Hobbylinc http://hobbylinc.com/

There is a paper model of a C-130 in 1:100 scale I'm thinking of as well for $12.00 from Paper Alice here's a link www.modelalice.com/ , with some extra work I was thinking of doing two of those one as a crash site and the other as "Get to the Plane!"

Now to the Meat and Potatoes! here are  Fixed Wing Aircraft that I will be using they are from Revell Models and can be found at most hobby shops.

Harrier Jump Jet and the A-10 Warthog.

Now there are other fixed wing aircrafts but I figured these would be most useful for myself.

Other very useful aircrafts that I can't wait to get are the Rotary Wing Aircrafts. these are from Revell Models as well and again can be found in many hobby shops as well.

UH-1H Huey.

AH-1 Cobra.

UH-60 Blackhawk.

SH-60 Seahawk.

AH-64 Apache.

For a CH-47 you have to go to Syma Drones at www.syma-rc.com Model No. S026G. The complete kit is costly but the body parts are cheap! You will have to fabricate rotary blades because I don't think the ones they carry will do, nope not at all!

Old Glory UK has a CH-47 complete resin and metal model but a little too pricy for me www.oldgloryuk.com/ .

Of course this is a short list of aircraft useful for 15mm game, Modern Combat games, Zombies, Alien Invasion, Giant Bugs, Giant Monsters, or Post Apocalyptic.

In addition the are a few others that will work great for Pulp Fiction game too but that's another list.

Welcome to Downtown (Update)

On an earlier post about HO Scale buildings, mostly about Plasticville HO Scale Buildings, I was cruising the local Goodwill Store when I spied a box of Guidancetown Building Set in HO Scale for only $5.00, figuring for $5.00 I couldn't go wrong getting these, if it doesn't work no big lost.

I got the box home and dived right in, seems that there is some parts missing but that's okay I could make 11 buildings and set up a small town, I don't like the style of the buildings but for the moment that's fine, it does confirm that HO Scale will work for my gaming needs and I can move forward with my ideas.

I have taken some comparison pictures of 15mm figures along with the buildings.

Here is a little layout of a small town on a cutting mat that's 24 inches by 35 inches.

Here is a small Diner or Convenience Store.

Here is a small House.

Here I have one that could be a small Store of sorts.

I really like the way this Figures look in comparison to the build's scale and I can't wait to get ahold of some more HO Scale buildings, I plan to have a fair size town for running Zombie games or Alien Invasion game not to forget giant Insect games as well. In addition I will get addition buildings to create  a Post Apocalyptic environment as well.
